Hack The Galaxy
This past March, SFU WiCS hosted Hack the Galaxy, our first-ever hackathon and a 12-hour, student-run event designed to empower women and non-binary students in computer science and technology. Held on March 14, 2026, at SFU's Burnaby campus, Hack the Galaxy brought together hackers of every skill level to learn, collaborate, and build confidence in a safe and supportive space through technical workshops, mentorship, and a full day of hands-on project building.
Entirely organized by WiCS student volunteers, the hackathon reflected everything WiCS stands for: promoting women in computing science, supporting students through their academic journey, challenging the biases and barriers in tech, and building a strong, inclusive community.
None of this would have been possible without our sponsors and partners: Excelar, Transoft Solutions, SAP, and Deloitte, along with our food partners Crust N Crunch, Steve's Poké Bar, and The Old Spaghetti Factory, who helped fuel a full day of building, learning, and connection.
